“Iʼm going to see the world”...LIO and LINN handcrafts and explores our life joy.

About Us

We are a Japanese artisan design duo handcrafting metal-art by Masumi Hayashi and woodwork by Ryu Iida in our Brooklyn-based studio.

As artists, designers and craftsman, we share over 10 years experience in the art of metalwork and woodwork. We honor the process of “thinking with our hands” and embrace fine detail found in art, craft and design. We work in unison, creating metal and woodwork merged into jewelry, objects and furniture designs that engage the spirit of personal adventure. Through an exchange of ideas, we experiment with organically inspired materials to fashion fresh forms and evoke curiosity.

LIO and LINN is modern by nature of its organic evolution. We honor unique materials, as well as the collectors who live with and wear our artisan designs. Custom design is a welcome option for all our collections.

Thinking with our hands...our creative curiosity lives in our designs.

Masumiʼs story...

Masumi studied graphic design at Kanazawa College of Arts and began her career in Tokyo as an accessory designer where she designed innovative accessories for both men and women. Masumiʼs love of fashion led her to NYC where she worked alongside noted jewelry designers perfecting her skilled craft, while evolving her own advanced aesthetic.

In 2008, she launched her own jewelry collection using her primary method of wax carving allowing her to create soft, organic shapes. Masumi began her creative collaboration with Ryu in 2009. Ryu specializes in custom furniture and together they launched a home accessory collection that forms an alchemy of wood and metal design. It was the start of an organic process based not just on materials but a fearless approach to life: playful, fresh, clear and curious. Modern woodwork melds with ethereal, exacting and effervescent metal design.

Ryuʼs story...

Ryuichiro Iida is an expert craftsman and wood worker at heart. He applied his craft early on as a custom frame maker for leading galleries and museums in NYC, including the Guggenheim, noteworthy galleries and discriminating private art collectors.

Through the art of frame-making for over a decade, Ryu mastered a sensory and technical knowledge of wood - its distinct qualities, construction and design detail that highlights fine art, just as his woodwork illuminates Masumiʼs metalwork and jewelry.

In 2006, Ryu wisely merged his love of craftsmanship with the formation of his custom furniture business to see his dream of design, detail and dedicated integrity create a livelihood. His furniture design includes residential, commercial and hospitality commissions.
